Just like they sound, clay plasters are a mixture of standard plaster and clay to make it a very durable exterior finish. Plastering the exterior with clay is also referred to as rendering in some circles. The finished product looks similar to stucco and allows the exterior to have a clean and highly beautiful look that is not achievable with siding or the like.

Mica coating is also becoming popular with plastering people. Adding mica dust to the plaster gives it a reflective and almost sparkly finish that is becoming all the rage with some circles. This is an inexpensive way to add some variety to plaster without having to paint the surface and it will actually save you money in the long run.
